ATM Azharul Islam, the Nayebe Ameer of the central committee of Jamaat-e-Islami, delivered a fiery speech at a public meeting organized by the party's Faridpur branch at Ambika Maidan on Tuesday afternoon.
Azharul Islam claimed that top Jamaat leaders were executed due to their opposition to "hegemony of other countries over Bangladesh." He promised that if Jamaat were elected through fair means, the party would establish a corruption-free, independent, and self-reliant Bangladesh that ensures equal rights for all citizens and 100% security for all classes.
The Nayebe Ameer criticized the current government, alleging that under Prime Minister Hasina's rule, Hindus could not worship properly and their festivals were subject to attack and vandalism. He claimed that after "Hasina's departure," there was no vandalism during the recent Durga Puja.
Regarding the upcoming national elections, he framed the vote as a profound choice, An "election for a change in idolatry," not just a change of power, an election to free the country from terrorism and extortion and an election to free Bangladesh's sovereignty from hegemonic forces.
Azharul Islam issued a stern warning to his party workers regarding potential vote rigging, stating: "You will guard every polling station, not for vote theft and robbery, those who come to snatch votes will also come with both hands, you also have two hands, you cannot steal votes and take them back with both hands." He urged supporters to vote for the 'scale' symbol.
Earlier in the day, Azharul Islam visited the grave of the late former Jamaat assistant secretary general, Abdul Quader Mollah, to offer prayers.
The meeting was chaired by District Jamaat Ameer Maulana Muhammad Badruddin and attended by several key central and local leaders and prospective election candidates.
