A mobile court has been established at a jaggery factory in the Shibrampur area of Faridpur Sadar Upazila, following confidential information. This initiative is a collaboration between the district administration and the Food Safety Authority.
The operation resulted in the seizure and public destruction of 6,500 kg of adulterated jaggery and industrial chemicals. Furthermore, a case has been lodged against the company in the Pure Food Court, and the factory has been sealed.
On Tuesday evening, a thorough mobile court operation was carried out at the adulterated jaggery factory owned by Swapan Kumar Shil, located in the Chhota Battala area of Shibrampur, in accordance with the Food Safety Act of 2013.
The operation was led by Assistant Commissioner Md. Atiqur Rahman, with coordination from Faridpur Food Safety Officer Md. Azmul Fuad. Additionally, a skilled team of Ansar was present during the operation.
The factory was found to be producing date and sugarcane molasses in extremely unsanitary conditions, failing to adhere to the required hygienic standards. It was using low-quality canned jaggery imported from India (intended for cow feed), along with prohibited substances such as hydrose, alum, non-food grade harmful colors and flavors, spoiled sweets, waste sweets, flour, soda, and sugar. Moreover, various industrial chemicals, including D-9700 (a resin/solvent/glue type) and chemicals used for manufacturing shoe soles, were discovered in the factory.
Md. Azmul Fuad, the Safe Food Officer of Faridpur, stated that an examination of the documents and registers found in the factory indicated that the production of adulterated jaggery primarily occurs at night, with supplies being sent to markets in Dhaka and Rajshahi, as well as throughout the greater Faridpur region.
