South Africa defeated Pakistan by eight wickets in the second One Day International (ODI) in Faisalabad on Thursday, leveling the three-match series 1-1. The victory was anchored by a commanding century from returning opener Quinton de Kock.
South Africa comfortably chased down Pakistan's total, reaching 270/2 in 40.1 overs against a target of 270. Quinton de Kock, who reversed his retirement decision, was the match-winner, scoring an unbeaten 123 for his 22nd ODI century.
De Kock shared an 81-run opening partnership with teenager Lhuan-dre Pretorius (46). The decisive stand was a 153-run partnership off 137 balls for the second wicket with Tony de Zorzi (76 off 63 balls).
Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat, posting 269/9 in their 50 overs. They struggled early, reeling at 22/3. Half-centuries from Saim Ayub (53) and Salman Ali Agha (69) steadied the innings with a 92-run fourth-wicket stand. Mohammad Nawaz contributed a career-best 59 to push the total to a competitive level.
Left-arm seamer Nandre Burger led the attack with figures of 4/46, supported by leg-spinner Nqaba Peter, who bagged a career-best 3/55. The two teams will meet in the deciding third and final fixture in Faisalabad on Saturday.
