Former Joint Secretary of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Central Committee and BNP nomination aspirant for Chattogram-16 (Banshkhali) constituency, Mofizur Rahman Ashiq, has said that Tarique Rahman’s 31-point outline for state reform is a groundbreaking step toward restoring the people’s democratic rights.
“Implementation of these 31 points will usher in a new dawn for Bangladesh,” Ashiq said while distributing leaflets and campaigning in favor of the BNP’s electoral symbol, the sheaf of paddy, at Napoara Bazar and Prembazar in Puichhari Union of Banshkhali on Friday (October 17) evening.
Ashiq described Tarique Rahman’s 31-point proposal as “not merely a political program but a declaration to rebuild the nation’s democratic and constitutional foundation.”
“I am a student leader who emerged from Dhaka University’s Green Square. I have been abducted and tortured under the autocratic regime but never gave up,” he said. “I came to Banshkhali to challenge dynastic politics. Those who rely solely on their family name to seek nomination are not worthy representatives of the BNP.”
Criticizing the government’s development policies, Ashiq alleged that “billions of taka have been embezzled in the name of development while many roads in rural Banshkhali remain unconstructed or unrepaired.”
“Banshkhali is rich in natural resources — with hills to the east and the Bay of Bengal to the west — yet it has not been declared a tourism zone,” he added. “If the estuary of Khatkhali is turned into a river port, it would bring a major economic boost for both Banshkhali and Chattogram.”
“If I am nominated under the BNP’s sheaf of paddy symbol, I will transform Banshkhali into a model upazila. I will fight relentlessly against corruption, injustice, and exploitation. I dream of making Banshkhali a beacon of hope, justice, and humanity,” Ashiq said.
