As soon as the nomination process for the Chattogram -14 (Chandanaish) constituency of the 13th National Parliament election began, BNP candidate Jasim Uddin Ahmed faced a new setback. Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah announced the suspension of his nomination at 11:30 am on Sunday (January 4). He said that according to the information of the Credit Information Bureau, Jasim Uddin is a loan defaulter, and the LDP candidate has also objected to his nomination.
In the nomination paper verification process for Chattogram -14 constituency, the nominations of two more candidates along with him were cancelled. They are independent candidates Md. Mizanul Haque Chowdhury and Md. Nurul Anwar.
Meanwhile, six candidates have received valid declarations. Among them are: Bangladesh Islamic Front's Mau. Md. Solaiman, LDP's Omar Farooq, Jatiya Party's Mohammad Badsha Mia, Islami Andolan Bangladesh's Mohammad Abdul Hamid, independent candidate Shafiqul Islam Rahi, and Insaniat Biplob Bangladesh's HM Ilyas. Initially, 21 candidates collected nomination papers for the Chittagong-14 constituency, but only nine submitted them in the end.
