Bangladesh has reaffirmed its commitment to international law and Muslim unity, backing the territorial integrity of Somalia during an extraordinary meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain expressed this stance today (11 January) at the 22nd Extraordinary Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
"Bangladesh aligns itself fully with the collective resolve of the OIC to uphold international law, respect the sovereignty of member states, and maintain the unity of the Muslim world," Hossain stated.
The session was convened to address Israel’s recognition of "Somaliland" and the resulting threats to the sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
Adviser Hossain urged the OIC to categorically reject and condemn the recognition, calling for unwavering support for Somalia’s borders. He emphasized that the sovereignty of member states is non-negotiable and that justice and multilateralism must prevail over unilateral coercion.
Earlier in the day, senior officials from member states met to coordinate the session's objectives. During these discussions, the OIC reaffirmed its continued solidarity with the Palestinian people, noting that the Palestinian cause remains central to the organization's mission.
