The Sayedabad Bus Terminal will be converted into a dedicated facility for city buses, while all inter-district services will be relocated to Kanchpur. Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md Abdus Salam announced the move on Thursday, signaling a major shift in the capital's transport management.
During an inspection of the terminal, the Administrator noted that while Sayedabad was designed as a modern facility, it has been misused for years as a bus garage and dumping station rather than a passenger hub. A clean-up operation is currently underway to restore the terminal’s functionality. New Operational Rules Under the new guidelines, transport operators will be permitted to keep only one or two buses inside the terminal at a time. Owners and workers have been given until July 15 to comply with these regulations. While no penalties have been issued during the initial clean-up phase, the Administrator warned that mobile courts will be deployed to enforce the rules after the deadline passes.
Wider Relocation Plans The overhaul is part of a broader strategy to reduce congestion in the city center. Authorities are also planning to relocate the Gulistan bus terminal to the other side of the river. Additionally, illegal shops within the Sayedabad terminal will be dismantled, though verified vendors and hawkers may be allocated designated spaces following a document review.
