Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said that every village in Bangladesh can become a center of socio-economic development through the active participation of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) members.
In a message issued on Tuesday (May 19) marking the 46th National Rally-2026 of Bangladesh Ansar and VDP, celebrated on Wednesday (May 20), the Prime Minister said the patriotism, courage and dedication of the force’s nearly 6 million members would help build a safe, discrimination-free and justice-based society.
He extended greetings and congratulations to officers, employees and grassroots Ansar-VDP members across the country. The Prime Minister also paid tribute to the 670 members of the force who were martyred during the Liberation War.
He said the role of Ansar and VDP members during national emergencies and important state duties has been commendable. Referring to the 13th National Parliament elections held in February, the Prime Minister praised the force for helping ensure a free, fair and peaceful voting environment nationwide.
The Prime Minister said Bangladesh has entered a new democratic phase after years of authoritarian rule. He added that the government is working to strengthen democracy, equality, human dignity and social justice, where the contribution of Bangladesh Ansar and VDP remains significant.
Quoting the late President Ziaur Rahman’s slogan, “Our hands are millions of tools, our commitment is to build our country,” the Prime Minister said the force has created a strong grassroots network across the country. He noted that Ansar-VDP members are working alongside the government to maintain social security, protect citizens’ rights and implement public service activities in both rural and urban areas.
He also highlighted the force’s potential role in environmental protection, tree plantation, canal excavation, flood prevention, disaster management, food security and rehabilitation efforts in vulnerable regions.
According to the Prime Minister, more than 52,000 affiliated Ansar members are currently engaged in providing security at key state establishments, including industries, hospitals and financial institutions.
The Prime Minister further said the government considers youth as a major source of national strength. He praised Ansar and VDP initiatives aimed at developing skilled youth entrepreneurs through demand-based training and inclusive programs.
Expressing optimism, he said Ansar-VDP would continue to play an effective role in building a productive, self-reliant and employment-oriented society by involving people at the grassroots level.
The Prime Minister wished continued success and prosperity for Bangladesh Ansar and the Village Defence Party and expressed confidence in the force’s future role in national development.
