Worshippers and officials of the newly built Paikgachha Upazila Model Mosque and Islamic Cultural Center submitted a memorandum on Tuesday (May 19) demanding action against the project's contractor for severe construction defects and mismanagement.
The memorandum, addressed to the Public Works Minister, was officially handed over through Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Wasiuzzaman Chowdhury.
According to the complaint, the local Muslim community is outraged over the building's substandard construction quality. Structural issues include widespread dampness, visible cracks, and roof leaks that allow rainwater to seep into electrical switchboards, posing a severe safety hazard.
Furthermore, worshippers alleged that the contractor’s staff frequently lock the main gate, motor room, and water management facilities without prior notice, causing extreme distress for the public during prayer times.
Despite an earlier inspection on May 6—during which Public Works Department engineers and the contractor promised swift repairs—no corrective measures have been taken. The aggrieved worshippers are now seeking the minister's direct intervention to resolve the crisis and ensure the mosque's safety and durability.
Prominent community members, including Maulana Rustam Ali, Mizanur Rahman, Asaduzzaman, and Maulana Ahmed Ali, were present during the memorandum submission.
