In a major push toward civic cleanliness Dr. S. M. Ziauddin Haider the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, launched a waste management ‘service charge card’ for business establishments in Jhalokathi Municipality on Thursday.
The initiative was inaugurated during a ceremony organized by the municipal authority, where service charge cards were distributed among local business owners to bring commercial areas under a structured, integrated waste collection network.
Addressing the event, Dr. Haider highlighted that the project aims to transform Jhalokathi into a clean and modern city through shared civic responsibility. Under the new system, sanitation workers will collect waste on a fixed schedule while business owners and residents will use the cards to ensure accountability and track monthly service fee payments.
"Building a clean city requires collective action" Dr. Haider noted. "Sanitation workers must maintain regular collection, while business owners must adhere to proper waste disposal guidelines. This card system establishes clear coordination and mutual accountability between citizens and municipal authorities."
Presided over by Jhalokathi Municipality Administrator Julia Sukayna, the event was attended by Zila Parishad Administrator Advocate Md. Shahadat Hossain, Civil Surgeon Dr. Mohammad Humayun Kabir and Jhalokathi Chamber of Commerce Vice-President Md. Rezwan. Municipal officials emphasized that structured waste management will reduce public health hazards and enhance urban livability across the district.
