In a bid to prevent financial hardship from disrupting higher secondary education, free textbooks were distributed to 28 meritorious but underprivileged 11th-grade students at Habibul Alam Bir Protik College in Piroli village on Thursday.
The books were handed over during a ceremony held at the college hall, benefiting enrolled students across the Science, Business Studies and Humanities streams for the 2026–2027 academic session.
The humanitarian effort was funded by S. M. Bayzid Alam Tutul, a local enthusiast from Shitalbati village, aiming to encourage talented students to pursue their studies without financial stress.
Md. Mosaddek Shahriar Babu, President of the college’s Governing Body, presided over the program while M. A. Noman, Vice-President of the College Implementation Committee, attended as the chief guest. Local community leaders, educationists, journalists and faculty members were also present.
Delivering the welcome address Acting Principal Alamgir Hossain expressed gratitude to the donor and urged students to study diligently to become responsible citizens.
Other speakers emphasized that such community-led support protects vulnerable students from dropping out and provides vital motivation. They called on affluent members of society to step forward and expand educational opportunities for underprivileged youth across rural Bangladesh.
