


Professor Dr. Rokeya Begum, a retired teacher of Dhaka University’s Botany Department and a life member of the DU Botany Alumni Association (DUBAA), has donated Tk 5 lakh to establish a student welfare trust fund.
Dr. Rokeya, who currently resides in Canada, handed over the cheque to DUBAA General Secretary Professor Dr. Md. Abul Basar.
DU Botany Department Chairman and DUBAA Vice President Professor Dr. Asfaq Ahmed noted that the alumni association was founded in 2015 and has since grown to 802 members.
According to Professor Abul Basar, DUBAA now manages 29 trust funds holding total capital of several crore taka. The principal amount remains invested, and the annual profits are used to fund scholarships for meritorious students. Currently, 47 students receive a monthly stipend of Tk 2,000. The fund also covers medical expenses for underprivileged students, supports tree plantation initiatives, and hosts an annual alumni reunion.
