A 25-year-old youth died on Tuesday (May 19) afternoon after jumping in front of a moving train in the Majhukhan area of Pubail in Gazipur. Police suspect it was a case of suicide triggered by depression.
The deceased was identified as Sunil Rabidas, son of Lal Chandra Rabidas. According to his identity card, he resided in the City Colony area near Gate No. 1, BDR in Hazaribagh. He was employed as a peon at the 'July Shaheed Smriti Foundation'.
Eyewitnesses reported that Sunil was walking alongside the railway tracks. As a train approached, he briefly stepped aside, dropped a piece of paper from his hand, and suddenly threw himself under the moving train. He died on the spot.
Locals recovered the dropped note from the scene. It included two mobile phone numbers and a brief message: "Miss you all. Forgive my mistakes, mother."
Atiqur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pubail Police Station under the Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP), stated that the Railway Police (GRP) were immediately notified to take jurisdiction and proceed with legal formalities.
Citing the recovered note, Narsingdi Railway Outpost In-Charge, Police Inspector Md. Nazim Uddin, noted that Sunil appeared to be suffering from severe depression related to personal family matters.
