


A suspected thief was killed in a mob beating in Pabna’s Ishwardi upazila early Monday after allegedly stabbing a grocery shop owner and his two sons.
The incident occurred around 3:00 am on August 3 in Mistripara Thandatola village of Sahapur union. The deceased was identified as Manik Hossain alias Sumon 32 from nearby Mahadevpur Azijaltola village.
According to the injured shop owner Habibul Mandal he heard noises late at night and discovered Sumon trying to burglarize his grocery store which adjoins his home. When Habibul attempted to intervene Sumon struck him multiple times with a Chinese axe. Hearing Habibul's screams his two sons rushed out to help, but they were also attacked and injured by the suspect.
Alerted by the commotion local residents gathered at the scene apprehended Sumon and beat him severely. Sumon died on the spot from his injuries.
Habibul and his two sons were rescued and are currently receiving treatment at the Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex.
Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Asadur Rahman confirmed the incident stating that police recovered the body and sent it to the Pabna General Hospital morgue for an autopsy. He added that a formal investigation is underway and legal action will follow.
