A 32-year-old father of two allegedly took his own life in Bheramara, Kushtia, early Monday following a domestic dispute after returning home late from watching a football final.
Police recovered the body of Sumon Hossain, a farmer from Dakshinpara village in Bahirchar Union. Family members noted he was a devoted supporter of the Argentina national football team.
According to his wife, Sumon returned home around 4:00 AM after watching the match. A brief argument ensued when she questioned his late arrival, after which he walked out towards the field. She stated she later fell asleep and woke up at dawn to find him hanging from the ceiling.
Abdul Jalil, a neighbor, reported hearing screams after Fajr prayers. He rushed to the house and, with the help of others, brought the body down.
Bheramara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Jahedur Rahman confirmed the incident. “Initial evidence suggests suicide, though the exact motive remains unconfirmed,” the OC stated. “We are aware of the disagreement with his wife regarding his late return. An investigation is underway, and standard legal procedures are being followed.”
Sumon leaves behind his wife and two young children, aged five and one and a half.
