Muezzin Found Dead in Dimla Mosque After Wedding

In a tragic incident, police recovered the body of a 21-year-old muezzin from inside a local mosque on Wednesday night, just days after he was married.

The deceased, Md. Malek, served as the muezzin at the Baitun Noor Jame Mosque and was a resident of Dakshin Jhunagach Chapani village in Dimla upazila.

According to his family, Malek left home after dinner. When he failed to return by midnight, his relatives and in-laws began a search. At approximately 1:00 AM, locals spotted his shoes on the mosque's balcony. Upon entering, they found his body hanging from a ceiling fan and immediately alerted the authorities.

Police recovered the body and sent it to the morgue at Nilphamari Sadar Modern Hospital for an autopsy.

Local sources indicated that Malek had married a woman from the same area just days prior, on July 14. However, a dispute allegedly broke out between the families during the marriage registration over dowry demands, which reportedly caused the young man severe mental distress.

Dimla Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shawkat Ali Sarkar confirmed the incident. He stated that an Unnatural Death (UD) case has been filed based on the family's report, and police are investigating the exact circumstances surrounding his death.
