A torch procession involving over 1,000 students took place at Jahangirnagar University on the night.

More than a thousand female students of Jahangirnagar University (JU) besieged the Proctor’s office tonight, demanding the immediate resignation of Proctor Prof. AKM Rashidul Alam. The protest follows an attempted rape of a student on campus, allegedly by an outsider.

The demonstration began around 10:10 pm with a torch procession starting from the female dormitories. Students marched across the campus, chanting slogans against the administration’s failure to provide security.

The protesters claim the Proctor’s office has been negligent in ensuring a safe environment for students. The anger stems from an incident late last night near the abandoned old Fazilatunnesa Hall and the Al-Beruni Hall extension, where a female student was reportedly attacked by an unidentified man.

An attempted rape case has already been filed with the Ashulia Police Station. University authorities confirmed the location of the incident, which has sparked widespread fear and outrage among the student body.
