The government has adjusted the prices for salt-applied rawhides and skins for the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha, reflecting a slight increase of Tk 2 to Tk 3 per square foot compared to last year.
According to the decision finalized during a meeting at the Ministry of Commerce on Wednesday, the new rates for salted cowhides are Inside Dhaka: Tk 62–67 per sq ft and Outside Dhaka: Tk 57–62 per sq ft.
For other livestock, the price of goat hides has been set at Tk 25–30 per sq ft, while baqri (female goat) skins will sell for Tk 22–25 per sq ft.
Last year, the rates for cowhides were Tk 60–65 in the capital and Tk 55–60 elsewhere. Goat and baqri skins were previously priced at Tk 22–27 and Tk 20–22, respectively.
The modest hike aims to ensure fair value for seasonal traders and prevent the wastage of these essential raw materials for the leather industry.
