


The Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court has formally recorded the arrest of former Home Secretary Jahangir Alam in connection with the murder of Ripon, a van driver, during last year's anti-discrimination protests.
Magistrate Nazmin Akhter issued the order on Wednesday (May 13) following a petition from the case's investigation officer. Sub-Inspector Anup Kumar Das of the Prosecution Department confirmed the court's decision.
According to the investigation, the victim, Ripon, joined the 'Long March to Dhaka' on August 5, 2024. He was shot while participating in the student-led movement in the Kotwali area. Ripon succumbed to his injuries two days later at a hospital. His wife, Shamima Akhter Ruma, filed the murder case on August 28, naming 200 individuals.
