The dismembered body of Bangladeshi PhD student Jamil Ahmed Limon, who was murdered in Florida, has arrived in Dhaka.
An Emirates Airlines flight carrying the body landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:47 am on Monday (May 4).
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaid handed over the body to Limon’s family at the airport. She said the government is in contact with US authorities and is working to ensure those responsible are brought to justice.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs acted promptly. We are coordinating closely with the United States for a proper investigation,” she added.
Efforts are also underway to bring back the body of another Bangladeshi victim, Nahida Sultana Brishti.
Brishti’s first funeral is scheduled to be held in Tampa at 2 pm on May 6. The Bangladesh Embassy in Washington DC, along with the Miami Consulate, is coordinating the process. Her body will be sent to Bangladesh after completing legal procedures.
Limon and Brishti, both doctoral students at the University of South Florida, had been missing since April 16.
Police recovered Limon’s body on April 24, about 10 days after he went missing. He was pursuing a PhD in geography, environmental science and policy.
Brishti also went missing the same day. Authorities later recovered parts of her body from a water body near I-275 and Fourth Street North in Florida.
Investigations into the killings are ongoing.
