


The International Crimes Tribunal has set April 9 for the verdict in the murder case of Shaheed Abu Sayeed, the first martyr of the July 24 uprising. Abu Sayeed was a student of Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur.
The date was fixed on Thursday (March 5) by a three-member bench of International Crimes Tribunal-2, led by its chairman Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury. The other members of the bench are Judge Md. Manjurul Bashid and Judge Nur Mohammad Shahriar Kabir.
A total of 30 people, including the former Vice-Chancellor of BRUR, have been charged in the case. Among them, six accused have been arrested. They are ASI Amir Hossain, former BRUR provost Shariful Islam, constable Sujan Chandra Roy, and Chhatra League leaders Imran Chowdhury, Rafiul Hasan Russell, and Anwar Parvez.
During Thursday’s hearing, Prosecutor Mizanul Islam and Prosecutor Moinul Karim appeared for the prosecution. Lawyers representing the accused were also present in the tribunal.
Earlier, on January 27, the tribunal concluded the hearing of arguments and kept the case awaiting a verdict date. On that day, after the defence presented their arguments, Prosecutor Mizanul Islam responded on behalf of the prosecution, followed by a final reply from the defence lawyers.
