The International Crimes Tribunal-2 has ordered the start of trial against 11 people including former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman and former police station OC Abul Hasan in the case of Imam Hossain Taim's murder in Jatrabari during the July uprising.
On Sunday (February 22), the International Crimes Tribunal-2 headed by Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury ordered the start of trial by framing charges. The other two members of the tribunal are Judge Md. Manjurul Bashid and Judge Nur Mohammad Shahriar Kabir.
Out of the 11 accused in the case, 9 people including former DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman, former Joint Commissioner Sudip Kumar Chakraborty and former officer-in-charge (OC) of Jatrabari Police Station Abul Hasan are currently absconding. Among them, former OC Abul Hasan and former OC (Investigation) Zakir Hossain are under arrest.
It is worth noting that Taim was martyred in police firing on July 20, 2024 during the anti-discrimination student movement. His father Md. Moynal Hossain Bhuiyan is also a sub-inspector of Rajarbagh Police Lines. That day, he went out to have tea with a friend and had to return home after being shot dead in the Jatrabari area. At one stage of the search, Moynal found his son's body and told a senior officer on the phone, 'Sir, my son is dead. His chest is riddled with bullets. Sir, my son is no more.' At that time, he asked, 'How many bullets does it take to kill a person, sir?'
