The tribunal has set February 5 as the date for the verdict in the case of crimes against humanity in the July uprising in Ashulia, including the killing of six bodies.

On Sunday, a three-member judicial panel led by International Crimes Tribunal-2 Chairman Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury set the date. The other two members of the panel are Judge Md. Manjurul Bashid and Judge Nur Mohammad Shahriar Kabir.

The eight accused arrested in this case are - former Additional Superintendent of Police of Dhaka District Abdullahil Kafi, former Additional Superintendent of Police of Savar Circle Md. Shahidul Islam, former Inspector of the Intelligence Department (DB) of Dhaka District Police Md. Arafat Hossain, former Sub-Inspector (SI) of Ashulia Police Station Abdul Malek, Arafat Uddin, Kamrul Hasan, Sheikh Abzalul Haque and former Constable Mukul Chokder.

Among the accused, Sheikh Abjalul Haque became a royal witness and gave a statement seeking forgiveness from the International Crimes Tribunal along with the families of the martyrs. On the other hand, the remaining eight accused in the case, including former MP Muhammad Saiful Islam, are absconding.

Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam, while presenting the opening statement of the case on September 14, described the barbaric killings that took place in Ashulia on August 5, 2024.

Later, he told reporters that after shooting six protesters dead, the police put their bodies in a van and set them on fire. One was alive at the scene, but he was not allowed to live.
