Three more children died with measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours leading up to 8:00 am on Friday.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has classified these latest fatalities as suspected measles deaths. This pushes the country’s combined death toll from confirmed and suspected cases to 928 this year. Currently the nationwide fatality breakdown stands at 829 suspected deaths and 99 laboratory-confirmed deaths.
The viral outbreak continues to spread rapidly. Within the same 24-hour window, the DGHS recorded 876 new suspected cases and 64 confirmed infections. This brings the country's cumulative caseload to 147,591 suspected infections and 18,208 confirmed cases.
Despite the alarming infection rates, the recovery figures offer some relief. Since the current outbreak surged on March 15, health facilities across the country have hospitalized 128,825 patients with suspected measles. Of those admitted 124,558 patients have successfully recovered and been discharged.
Health authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as the number of symptomatic cases remains high across the nation.
