Bangladesh recorded 366 new dengue hospitalizations in the 24 hours leading up to bringing the total number of admissions this year to 27,388.
According to the Friday bulletin from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) no new deaths from the Aedes mosquito-borne disease were reported during this period. The national death toll remains at 77 with 23 of these fatalities occurring in August alone.
Of the newly admitted patients, 115 were hospitalized within Dhaka city 60 in Dhaka North City Corporation and 55 in Dhaka South. An additional 21 cases were reported elsewhere in the Dhaka Division. Outside the capital, Chattogram recorded the highest number of new infections at 97, followed by Khulna (75), Mymensingh (38), Barishal (8) and Rangpur and Sylhet which reported six cases each.
Despite the ongoing outbreak, recovery rates remain highly encouraging. Health authorities confirmed that out of the 27,388 people infected since January 1 a total of 25,399 patients have successfully recovered and been discharged from hospitals.
The DGHS has formally tracked dengue statistics since 2000. While the current figures remain a public health concern, they are significantly lower than the historic peak in 2023 which saw a staggering 321,179 hospitalizations and 1,705 deaths. Last year, the country recorded around 102,000 confirmed cases and over 400 fatalities.
Health officials continue to urge the public to remain vigilant, use mosquito nets and actively clear stagnant water around their homes to prevent Aedes mosquito breeding.
