The upazila administration conducted a drive against illegal sand and soil extraction in the Kheter Para area of Munshiganj's Louhajang upazila.
Led by Louhajang Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Farzana Bobby Mitu, the operation successfully disabled three illegal dredgers and destroyed their pipelines to halt further environmental damage.
During the drive authorities penalized those involved with imposing a Tk.50,000 fine under the Sand and Soil Management Act. An additional Tk.15,000 fine was collected under the Local Government (Union Parishad) Act, 2009.
Local residents welcomed the decisive administrative action, urging authorities to conduct regular drives to permanently eradicate illegal sand mining in the region.
Reaffirming the government's commitment to ecological preservation the UNO Farzana Bobby Mitu stated that strict operations against illegal dredgers will continue to protect the local environment and agricultural lands from degradation.
