Iran has said it will not reopen the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for a temporary ceasefire, according to a senior government official. International media report that Tehran believes the United States is not adequately prepared even for a permanent ceasefire.
The official confirmed that Iran has received a proposal for an immediate ceasefire from Pakistan, which is currently under review. However, Tehran is not willing to make any decision under external pressure or within a fixed deadline.
On Sunday (April 5), Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy stated that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz will not return to its previous state, particularly regarding the United States and Israel.
The IRGC also said Iran is in the final stages of military preparations to implement what it described as a “new system” in the Persian Gulf.
Meanwhile, tensions have increased following the recent approval of a draft law by an Iranian parliamentary committee. The proposal suggests imposing transit fees on vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz, a move that could further impact global shipping and regional stability.
