Hezbollah has set five conditions for a permanent ceasefire to end Israeli military actions in Lebanon. The group’s Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem said they are willing to cooperate with the Lebanese government to implement the agreement.
In a message released Saturday night (April 18), Qassem praised Iran’s support and described the resistance fighters’ role as “unprecedented” in securing the ceasefire.
He said Hezbollah fighters prevented Israeli forces from advancing, despite the reported deployment of 100,000 troops near the border. According to him, the ceasefire was only possible due to frontline sacrifices.
Qassem also warned that Hezbollah does not trust Israel and will respond if the ceasefire is violated.
He added that Hezbollah is ready to fully cooperate with the Lebanese government to ensure national sovereignty under the new framework.
Israel and Lebanon have agreed to a 10-day ceasefire following intense conflict. The truce came into effect at 5 pm (US local time). While initial celebrations were reported, many civilians remain uncertain about its durability.
