To combat the spread of narcotics in the capital, Bashundhara Shuva Sangh organized an anti-drug discussion and oath-taking ceremony in Mugda on Tuesday (June 2). The event aimed to raise awareness among local youth and encourage them to become responsible, active citizens.
Speaking as a guest, Abul Kalam Azad, headmaster of Asian Ideal School and College, emphasized the need for moral development alongside academics. “The current generation needs more than just formal education; their sense of social responsibility must be enriched. Anti-drug awareness is essential to securing a healthy future for our students,” he said.
Abdul Hannan Milton, Dhaka Metropolitan Coordinator for the organization, noted that engaging youth in positive activities significantly reduces social crimes. “Bashundhara Shuva Sangh has always prioritized humanitarian and social development. We believe the youth are the key to building a safe, drug-free society,” he added.
Local leaders echoed this sentiment. Mugda Thana Branch President Sohan Ahmed described the initiative not as a one-day program, but as an ongoing social movement. General Secretary Sagar Hossain urged families, educational institutions, and social organizations to unite, noting that drugs threaten the individual, the family, and the state as a whole.
The program culminated in an oath-taking ceremony. Participants pledged to build a drug-free society, raise public awareness, and involve their peers in positive activities.
Organized under the direction of Abdul Hannan Milton and led by local branch leaders, the event drew numerous committee officials and community members. The participating youth expressed a shared determination to eradicate drugs from their neighborhoods and commit to future public welfare initiatives.
