Deep Depression Forms Over Bay of Bengal Maritime Ports Hoist Signal 3

A monsoon depression over the Northwest Bay of Bengal has officially intensified into a deep depression prompting immediate weather alerts across Bangladesh's coastal regions.

As of 6:00 AM on Monday July 27 2026 the system was centered near the West Bengal-North Odisha coasts. It is located approximately 220 km west-southwest of Mongla 260 km from Payra, 425 km from Chattogram and 430 km from Cox's Bazar. The Met Office projects the depression will move north-northwest and cross the Indian coast by Monday evening.

Squally weather is anticipated to severely impact Bangladesh's maritime ports and adjoining coastal areas. Maximum sustained wind speeds near the system's center are currently 50 kph rising to 60 kph in gusts which will keep the sea extremely rough.

To ensure public safety maritime authorities in Chattogram Cox's Bazar Mongla and Payra have been instructed to keep local cautionary signal No. 3 hoisted. Furthermore all fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay have been strongly advised to remain in safe shelters until further notice.
