Gold prices in Bangladesh have surged again following an official update from the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS). Effective Monday at 10:00 AM the price of 22-carat gold increased by Tk2,216 to reach Tk223,074 per bhori (11.664 grams). BAJUS attributed this price hike to the rising cost of refined gold (tejabi sona) in the local market.

The newly revised rates per bhori for other gold categories are as follows

21-carat: Tk213,043 18-carat: Tk182,950 Traditional gold: Tk149,474

To ensure transparency for buyers BAJUS explicitly clarified that these newly listed retail prices already include VAT. Jewellers cannot legally charge customers extra VAT on top of the listed gold prices. However consumers should note that separate making charges will still apply which vary based on the specific design of the jewellery.

Existing policies regarding the exchange and purchase of ornaments remain completely unchanged.
