The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has dissolved its Phulbari and Parbatipur municipal committees in Dinajpur to pave the way for fresh leadership.
The decision was announced in a press release signed by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Sunday night. Earlier that same day, the party also dissolved the upazila-level committees for both areas.
Phulbari Municipal BNP President Abul Bashar and Acting General Secretary Murtuza Haque Ashtin confirmed the development. They explained that the outgoing committees, formed in 2017, had been operating long past their expiration dates. Furthermore, several local leaders had violated party discipline by opposing the BNP’s official candidate during recent national and local government elections.
To address these internal issues and reorganize the grassroots, the party is initiating the formation of new committees. This restructuring effort will be guided by Barrister AKM Kamruzzaman, personal legal advisor to BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and the party’s former parliamentary candidate for the constituency.
