A massive procession in support of BNP-nominated candidate Barrister AKM Kamruzzaman swept through the streets of Phulbari on Monday afternoon, as the campaign for the Dinajpur-5 constituency enters its final days.
Supporters gathered at the Phulbari Government College grounds before marching through major municipal roads. The event, which drew several thousand activists and local residents, served as a platform for party leaders to frame the Feb. 12 election as a choice between local stability and "the threat of terrorism."
"This election is about who will lead Phulbari and Parbatipur into the future," said Principal Khurshid Alam Moti, President of Phulbari Upazila BNP. "Voters must decide if they want a peaceful region or one where land grabbers and extremists flourish. We are calling on people of all faiths and backgrounds to unite behind the sheaf of paddy symbol."
Barrister Kamruzzaman, who also serves as a legal adviser to BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, told the crowd that his platform focuses on the "welfare of the people" and regional development. He urged voters to consider the long-term impact of their leadership choice on the country's independence and progress.
Dinajpur-5, which comprises Parbatipur and Phulbari upazilas, has approximately 477,516 registered voters. Kamruzzaman faces competition from seven other candidates, including Dr. Abdul Ahad of the National Citizen Party (NCP) and two independent BNP challengers.
