4 Injured as ‘Paddy Sheaf’ Supporters’ House Attacked in Parbatipur

Violence broke out in Parbatipur on Tuesday night as the house of a BNP supporter was attacked and vandalized, leaving four people injured. The incident occurred in the New Colony Dhupipara area amid rising tensions ahead of the 13th National Parliament election for the Dinajpur-5 (Phulbari-Parbatipur) constituency.

The injured have been identified as Majid Hossain alias Majnu (General Secretary of Parbatipur Nationalist Hawkers Dal), his wife Barsha (22), Raju (35), and Raju's wife Ruma (30). According to hospital sources, Majnu and Raju sustained serious injuries. They were initially rushed to Haldibari Hospital, but one was later transferred to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital in critical condition.

Local witnesses reported that a group of 20 to 30 individuals, allegedly supporters of independent candidate AZM Rezwanul Haque (contesting with the ‘Tala’ or Lock symbol) and some expelled BNP members, carried out the assault. The attackers reportedly used sharp weapons and targeted the female members of the household during the vandalism.

Upazila BNP Vice-President Aminul Islam condemned the act, claiming that Rezwanul’s supporters are resorting to violence out of "desperation and fear of defeat."

Independent candidate AZM Rezwanul Haque denied the allegations, describing the event as a minor incident being "exaggerated" for political mileage.

Parbatipur Railway Police Station OC Zulfiqar Ali confirmed that officers have inspected the site. "Several people were injured in the attack and are receiving medical care. We are currently preparing to file a formal case," he stated.

Assistant Returning Officer Saddam Hossain added that law enforcement has increased monitoring in the area to maintain order as the election approaches.
