Five More Die with Measles Symptoms as Outbreak Toll Reaches 825 Children

Five more patients suffering from measles-like symptoms have died in Bangladesh over the past 24 hours the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) reported on Monday.

While there were no confirmed measles fatalities during this 24-hour period, hospitals recorded 1,105 new admissions of patients presenting with the disease and its symptoms.

Since March 15 the outbreak has claimed the lives of 825 children nationwide. This total includes 95 confirmed measles deaths and 730 fatalities linked to suspected measles symptoms.

According to DGHS data spanning March 15 to July 27 the country has recorded 15,555 confirmed measles cases alongside 124,745 suspected cases. The outbreak has placed a significant burden on the healthcare system, with 176,654 related hospital admissions during this timeframe. The health department noted that the vast majority of these admitted patients have already recovered and been discharged.
