The Newmooring Container Terminal (NCT) at Chittagong Port has set an all-time monthly record for container handling, processing 126,496 TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) this May.
According to a Chittagong Port Authority press release, May’s volume surpassed the previous record of 125,533 TEUs set in October 2025. The total volume included 59,851 TEUs of import containers and 66,645 TEUs of export containers.
Operated by Chittagong Drydock Limited (CDDL)—a Bangladesh Navy-controlled enterprise—NCT handled a daily average of 4,081 TEUs throughout the month.
Since CDDL took over NCT operations on July 7, 2025, the terminal has seen a noticeable increase in operational speed and capacity. Port officials attribute the faster loading and unloading times to coordinated efforts across ship points, delivery points, appraisal points, and C&F sheds.
"This new record is a crucial milestone in expanding the capacity of the country's main seaport," said Md. Nasir Uddin, Chief Personnel Officer of the Chittagong Port Authority. "Such success will further accelerate the growth of our national economy and foreign trade."
