


A gantry crane cable snapped at the Chittagong Port's CCT Terminal on Saturday evening, crushing a trailer truck and twisting a cargo container in two. Authorities confirmed there were no casualties.
The incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. while workers were unloading a timber-laden container from the commercial vessel Cheng Hai. According to the Chittagong Port Authority, Q Gantry Crane-4 lost its balance, causing the cable to snap and drop the heavy load onto a waiting trailer truck in the yard below. The rear part of the trailer and the container were completely destroyed.
Rescue and recovery operations began immediately to clear the damaged equipment. Port operations and container handling remain active at all other berths, with work temporarily suspended only at the accident site at CCT Berth 3.
Syed Refayet Hamim Secretary of the Chittagong Port Authority, announced the formation of a special technical committee to investigate the mechanical failure. Repair work on Crane-4 is scheduled to begin Sunday morning.
