


Veteran politician, former Commerce Minister, and nine-time Member of Parliament for Bhola-1 and Bhola-2, Tofail Ahmed, was laid to rest beside his parents' graves in Bhola. Thousands of people gathered to attend his two funeral prayers (Janaza) and pay their final respects.
To ensure public safety and manage the large crowds, law enforcement deployed heightened security measures across Bhola Sadar Upazila.
The helicopter carrying his body arrived from Dhaka at 1:35 p.m. on Tuesday (June 2), landing at the Bir Shrestha Mostafa Kamal Bus Stand. An ambulance then transported the body to the Bhola Government School grounds. Before the first funeral prayer at 2:30 p.m., the senior leader was granted a Guard of Honor to recognize his lifetime of state service.
A second funeral prayer took place at 4:30 p.m. near his ancestral home in Koralia village. Relatives, well-wishers, Awami League members, and individuals from various political and professional backgrounds attended to pray for his departed soul. Following the service, he was buried in the family graveyard next to his father Azahar Ali, mother Fatema Khanam, and wife Anwara Ahmed.
Tofail Ahmed was born on October 22, 1943, in Koralia village, along the banks of the Tetulia River in South Dighaldi Union. His mother affectionately called him 'Monu'.
He leaves behind his only daughter, Dr. Taslima Ahmed Munni, his son-in-law Dr. Touhiduzzaman, and countless supporters. His wife, Anwara Begum, who was a pillar of support throughout his long political career, passed away on November 20, 2024.
