To improve public health and market sanitation, Muksudpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Muhammad Asik Kabir inspected potential sites in Muksudpur Sadar Bazar on Tuesday (June 2) for a new, hygienic slaughterhouse.
The morning inspection aimed to identify a suitable location for a safe, regulated facility. According to the Upazila Administration, the initiative is part of a broader plan to make Muksudpur a cleaner, citizen-friendly town. The project is expected to stop open-air slaughtering, reduce pollution, and improve waste management.
During the visit, UNO Kabir also addressed local market conditions, instructing traders to immediately clear unauthorized structures from public footpaths.
"Pedestrians need unhindered movement, which requires keeping footpaths free from encroachment," he said. "Business owners must cooperate with the administration to maintain market discipline, cleanliness, and accessibility."
Local officials and political leaders joined the inspection, including Muksudpur Municipality Assistant Engineer Sadananda Roy, Sub-Assistant Engineer Md. Kamruzzaman, Upazila BNP President Abdul Salam Khan, and Muksudpur Press Club President Md. Chiru Mia, alongside other community representatives.
Local residents and business owners welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that a regulated slaughterhouse and clear walkways will lead to a healthier, better-organized market.
