Dispute Arises Over Out-of-Jurisdiction Marriage Registration in Tongibari

A dispute has emerged in Tongibari Upazila of Munshiganj following allegations that a Nikah Registrar registered a marriage outside his assigned territorial jurisdiction.

Md. Kawsar Hamid Nikah Registrar for Panchgaon Union filed a written complaint with Panchgaon Union Parishad Chairman Abu Siddique Bepari demanding an official investigation into the matter. According to the complaint, Mohammad Ali registrar for neighboring Hasail Banari Union entered Panchgaon Union on July 16 to register the marriage of a local resident's daughter. Hamid stated that registering marriages outside one's designated geographical zone violates government regulations.

In response to the allegations the registrar Mohammad Ali defended his actions, stating that the bride's family members are registered voters in Hasail Banari Union which he considers within his jurisdiction.

Panchgaon UP Chairman Abu Siddique Bepari confirmed receiving the complaint and stated that an inquiry is underway. He noted that registrars are required to operate strictly within their assigned territories also adding that both parties will be summoned for questioning.
