38 Tons of Fake Ghee Seized in Laxmipur Raid

Authorities seized 38 tons of counterfeit ghee during a joint drive at a factory in the BSCIC Industrial Estate in Laxmipur on Tuesday afternoon.

A mobile court led by Sadar Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Abhi Das conducted the operation based on a tip-off from the National Security Intelligence (NSI). Representatives from the Bangladesh Food Safety Authority and local police participated in the raid at Tahera Food Institute.

During the drive, officials found workers producing illegal ghee under brand names such as "Number One Ghee" "Q-BB Ghee," and "Mim Ghee."

Factory owner Abdul Mannan fled the scene prior to the raid. However, authorities detained his brother, Zillur Hossain while actively manufacturing the fake product. The mobile court fined Hossain Tk 3 lakh and sentenced him to two months in prison for non-payment.

Magistrate Abhi Das confirmed that all 38 tons of adulterated products were confiscated to prevent them from reaching retail markets with that drives against food adulteration will continue.
