Bangladesh's inflation rate rose to 9.42% in May, up from 9.04% in April, according to data released by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) on 7 June. The rate is also slightly higher than the 9.05% recorded in May last year.
The BBS data shows rising costs across both food and non-food categories. Food inflation jumped to 9.06% in May from 8.39% in April and 8.59% a year ago, reflecting a sharp rise in grocery prices.
Non-food inflation climbed even higher, reaching 9.71% up from 9.57% in April and 9.42% in May 2025 indicating that prices of services and essential non-grocery items continued to rise steadily.
The back-to-back monthly increases signal that cost-of-living pressures remain a serious concern for households across the country.
