Police have arrested Adnan Rubel, a member of the Nalchiti Municipal Chhatra Dal convening committee, on drug charges during a drive in the Sabujbag area of Jhalakathi on Friday night.
Following his arrest under suspicion of marijuana possession and consumption, a case was filed against the 28-year-old under the Narcotics Control Act. He was produced before a court on Saturday afternoon and subsequently sent to jail.
According to police sources, the raid was carried out based on secret information. Although relatives attempted to lobby for his release after he was brought to the station also officers proceeded with strict legal action.
Nalchiti Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Touhiduzzaman Sohag stated that the police maintain a zero-tolerance policy against narcotics, emphasizing that no external pressure or lobbying would influence law enforcement.
Jhalakathi District Chhatra Dal Convener Syed Ali Hasan noted that organizational action will be taken against any party activist if drug allegations are proven upon investigation.
Meanwhile, local residents welcomed the drive and called for stronger anti-drug operations to protect local youth, which police confirmed would continue across the district.
