A six-year-old girl was tragically killed after being run over by a speeding passenger bus in Lalmohan upazila of Bhola on Saturday afternoon.
The victim Maisha Akhtar was the daughter of Md. Billal Hossain resident of Ward 7 in the West Char Umed Union.
The fatal accident occurred in the Sainik Bazar area on the Bhola-Char Fassion regional highway. According to local sources Maisha was crossing the road when a Char Fassion-bound bus struck her killing her instantly. The driver fled the scene with the vehicle immediately after the collision.
The tragic incident sparked immediate outrage. Grieving relatives and angry locals gathered at the spot and protested by placing felled trees across the highway, halting all vehicular movement and trapping commuters.
Lalmohan Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Aliul Islam confirmed the incident and stating that a police team was swiftly dispatched to the scene to recover the body, manage the agitated crowd and restore traffic flow. He added that legal proceedings regarding the hit-and-run are currently underway.
