Three children drowned in monsoon water accumulated in a field in Pabna Sadar Upazila on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred around 2:00 PM in Dashpara village under Chartarapur Union's Nabin Bazar area.
The deceased were Sumi Khatun (7), daughter of Shimul Mallik and siblings Khalid Hossain (8) and Afia Khatun (6), children of Ashraful Islam. All three were from Dashpara village and studied at a local kindergarten.
According to locals the children had gone to bathe in rainwater that had collected in a nearby field. One child slipped into deeper water and the other two drowned while trying to help. Villagers pulled them out and rushed them to Sujanagar Upazila Health Complex but all three died on the way.
Tarikul Islam the Officer-in-Charge of Pabna Sadar Police Station confirmed the deaths and said police reached the scene after being informed. The tragedy has left the community in deep mourning with grieving relatives and neighbours gathered at the family's homes.
