Hollywood stars Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are back as witch sisters Sally and Gillian Owens in "Practical Magic 2" released in theatres on September 10. The sequel directed by Susanne Bier follows the 1998 original struggled at the box office but later became a cult favourite and especially among younger viewers who discovered it through social media.
Bullock shared her gratitude on Instagram saying that the sequel would not exist without the years of love fans gave the first film. She said the team poured their hearts into the new chapter also hoping it gives audiences a chance to laugh, cry and celebrate the people who bring magic into their lives.
Both actresses recalled how harshly the original was judged decades ago with Bullock admitting she once felt embarrassed by the criticism. She believes attitudes have since changed with more people now proudly reclaiming the word "witch."
The new film introduces the next generation of Owens women played by Joey King and Maisie Williams continuing the story drawn from Alice Hoffman's novels. Producers say a third installment could follow if audience response stays strong.
