Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday launched a three-month nationwide campaign to prevent dengue and promote cleanliness as the country enters its peak dengue season. He inaugurated the "Dengue Prevention and Cleanliness Campaign-2026" at South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
The campaign running from September 12 to December 12 aims to raise awareness, destroy Aedes mosquito breeding grounds and strengthen cleanliness efforts through coordinated work between government bodies, private organizations and volunteers. Its slogans urge citizens to keep their surroundings clean and remove stagnant water daily.
The Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Ministry along with Dhaka North and South City Corporations jointly organized the launch. Around 25,000 volunteers attended including cleaning workers, BNCC cadets, Girl Guides, Scouts, Red Crescent members and students.
Cabinet members MPs, secretaries and senior officials also joined while representatives from all 64 districts participated online.
The campaign will run at city, divisional, district and upazila levels. City corporations will lead activities in metropolitan areas also deputy commissioners at the district level and upazila nirbahi officers locally. Volunteers from the Disaster Management Ministry, Scouts, BNCC, Red Crescent and students will support the drive nationwide.
Key ministers including Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain, Andaleeve Rahman Partho, Dr MA Muhit and Mir Shahe Alam spoke at the event along with DSCC Administrator Abdus Salam.
Officials said the campaign follows the Prime Minister's directive after a recent meeting on rising dengue cases in Dhaka and across the country.
