PM Tarique Rahman to Address UNGA for the First Time

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to depart for New York on September 21 to attend the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) confirmed he will deliver his inaugural UNGA address as head of government on September 24.

This assembly carries historic diplomatic significance for Bangladesh. The 81st session will be presided over by Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman.

During the brief four-to-five-day trip Prime Minister Rahman will maintain a streamlined itinerary. In addition to his primary UN address he will attend a reception hosted by US President Donald Trump. His schedule also includes expected bilateral meetings with global leaders on the sidelines and a community exchange with the Bangladeshi diaspora.

Prioritizing efficiency the Prime Minister is traveling with a restricted delegation capped at 35 members. He is expected to conclude his visit and leave New York on September 25 or 26.
