The body of Md. Rakib (27) one of two men missing after a Meghna riverbank collapse in Bhola has been recovered. BGB member Md. Amjad remains missing.
The accident happened around 8:00 PM on Wednesday, September 9 when part of the Meghna riverbank locally known as "Goriber Dubai" (Poor Man's Dubai) collapsed in the Shantirhat area of Shibpur Union. Rakib was the son of Babul from Sardar Bari near Shantirhat Bazar.
Fishermen spotted Rakib's body floating in the Meghna River on Friday morning and alerted local river police who recovered it around 10:30 AM from the riverbank near Ramgati Upazila in Lakshmipur.
Syed Ashiqur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge of Ilisha River Police Station confirmed the recovery. He said relatives travelled to Ramgati and identified the body as Rakib's after receiving the news.
Legal formalities are underway before the body is handed over to the family. Search efforts continue for Amjad the BGB member still missing since the collapse.
