Bus Crashes Into Tree in Mirsarai After Losing Control, 10 Injured

At least 10 passengers, including the driver and his assistant, were injured after a Tisha Paribahan passenger bus lost control and crashed into a roadside tree on the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway in Mirsarai Upazila on Saturday.

The accident occurred around 12:00 pm at the BSRM Bypass area of Sonapahar in Jorarganj Union, on the Chattogram-bound lane of the highway.

According to the Fire Service and Highway Police, the bus was traveling from Dhaka to Chattogram when it reached the BSRM Bypass area. A covered van reportedly attempted to make a sudden U-turn, prompting the bus driver to try to overtake it.

During the maneuver, part of the covered van became entangled with one of the bus's wheels, causing the driver to lose control. The bus veered off the highway and slammed into a roadside tree.

The impact severely damaged the front portion of the bus, leaving the driver, his assistant, and at least 10 passengers injured.

Following the collision, local residents rushed to the scene and helped rescue the injured passengers from the damaged bus. They were later transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

The accident temporarily disrupted traffic on the Chattogram-bound lane of the highway.

Fire Service personnel and Highway Police later removed the damaged bus and cleared fallen tree branches from the road, restoring normal traffic flow.

Eyewitness Ariful Islam said the covered van suddenly attempted a U-turn, causing its front section to become stuck with the bus's wheel.

"The bus driver lost control after the vehicles became entangled and crashed into a tree. Several passengers suffered cuts and other injuries. Local people quickly helped take them to hospitals," he said.

Baraiyarhat Fire Service Station Officer Zainul Abedin Titas said a rescue team and an ambulance were dispatched immediately after receiving the emergency call.

He confirmed that, with assistance from local residents, the injured passengers were rescued and sent to hospitals for treatment.

Meanwhile, Jorarganj Highway Police Sergeant Nadim said the covered van believed to have caused the accident fled the scene.

"The collision caused a tree to fall onto the highway, leading to temporary traffic congestion. The situation was quickly brought under control, and normal traffic movement resumed," he added.
